Why Kunekune pigs?
As with most things for me, it started with a free Craigslist ad. I was picking up a rescued rooster and upon my arrival, there was a small, chubby, furry pig laying at the owner's feet. I greeted him with a belly rub- and I was in love. That pig followed me all over the yard. The owner informed me it was a kunekune. I delved into a vast internet search reading everything I could about this unique and breed. I found my first boar from Bel Canto farms. It was incredibly valuable to meet knowledgeable breeders and learn from others passionate about the breed.
Another great resource is the American Kunekune Pig Society. They provide the registry service for this awesome breed. The Empire Kunekune Pig Association is focused on preserving the breed through education, breed promotion and youth development
Nothing beats a Kune in your lap and the slow roll over for a belly rub. They are the sweetest most gentle pig you will ever meet.
